Approximately 133 million people suffer from ongoing chronic illness in the United States...
That’s more than 40% of the total population of this country.
At times, the social stigma surrounding chronic disease can be as difficult to cope with as the illness itself. This stigma can leave chronic illness patients feeling invisible, dismissed, and silenced.
We want to break that silence.
Suffering the Silence (STS) is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to leveraging the power of art, media, and storytelling to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding the life experience of people living with chronic illnesses and disability. We work to build powerful relationships within those communities, and to empower patients, friends, and family members to speak out and share their stories. This act of sharing helps those who are suffering to become self advocates and to find support and understanding. It will also help to transform the medical and social perception of those living with these conditions.
The Suffering the Silence Community, Inc. practices and encourages transparency and accountability to the general public by making full and accurate information about our mission, activities, finances, and governance publicly available.
